A natural disaster—flooding caused by heavy rainfall—occurred in the city of Kulyab on the night of May 1, 2026. Residential buildings, auxiliary structures, and some urban infrastructure were damaged, according to the press service of the Khatlon Region Governor.
In light of the current situation and at the direction of President Emomali Rahmon, an emergency meeting of the regional headquarters was held at 3:00 a.m. on May 2. It was chaired by Khatlon Region Chairman Davlatali Said, and was also attended by leaders and representatives of relevant agencies.
The meeting emphasized the need to address the consequences of the disaster as quickly as possible. Responsible agencies were instructed to mobilize all necessary equipment and resources, as well as to carry out rescue and recovery operations as quickly as possible and provide assistance to the victims.


According to official reports, three people died as a result of the flood. Two more were injured and hospitalized. The regional governor conveyed President Emomali Rahmon's condolences and support to the families of the victims and those affected.
In accordance with the instructions of the head of state, Davlatali Said visited the affected areas at night and familiarized himself with the situation on the ground.
During the visit, the relevant authorities were instructed to form task forces, provide food to the population, organize the provision of primary medical and sanitary aid, evacuate residents to safe locations, and establish a 24-hour watch in high-risk areas.
Work to eliminate the consequences of mudflows and clean up the areas affected by the mudflows is currently ongoing in the affected areas of Kulyab using the necessary equipment.
