Today, May 1, the Grand Slam Judo tournament is taking place in Dushanbe, following a draw ceremony on April 30. This was reported with reference to the International Judo Federation.
More than 240 athletes from 34 countries are participating in the competition. The main bouts take place on May 1, 2, and 3 in various weight categories.
The Tajikistan team is one of the largest at the tournament, comprising 40 athletes. Among the key participants in the men's weight categories are Emomali Nurali (up to 66 kg), Obid Jebov (up to 66 kg), Mukhiddin Asadulloev (up to 73 kg), and Somon Makhmadbekov (up to 81 kg).
The team also included Mehrzod Sufiev, Ramziddin Azizov, Loik Kutbiddinov, Ikrom Shamsov, Abdulloh Orif, Jakhongir Majidov and other athletes.
The Tajikistan women's team includes Madina Kurbonzoda, Akhliya Muminova, Alexandra Kan and Victoria Kiseleva.
The tournament features the world's leading teams. France is represented by titled athletes, including Walid Khiara, Joan-Benjamin Gaba, and Amandine Bouchard.
The Uzbekistan national team has registered 28 athletes, including Bakhrom Boturov, Mukhammadjon Masharipov, and Utkirbek Turoboev.
Russia is represented by 23 judokas, including Iago Abuladze, Danil Lavrentiev and Karen Galstyan.
Mongolia also fielded a strong lineup, including Ariunbold Enkhtaivan and Tumenjargal Tuvshintur.
In addition, teams from Azerbaijan, Moldova, China, the Republic of Korea, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and a number of European countries are taking part in the competition.
The Dushanbe tournament is noted for its high level of competition: international-level athletes are represented in virtually every weight category, making it one of the most significant events of the season.
For the Tajikistan team, the home tournament offers an opportunity to show strong results, but serious competition is expected in all weight categories.
