The European Union has taken a key step toward providing Ukraine with €90 billion in financial assistance. The final legal element required to launch the loan has been submitted for approval.
The issue concerns amendments to the EU's multiannual budget. This issue is on the agenda of the meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU member states, which will take place on April 22.
According to a representative of Cyprus, which holds the rotating Presidency of the EU Council, this item was included on the agenda without discussion. This procedure typically indicates prior agreement among member states.
If approved, the document will be approved through a written procedure, which will complete the process and pave the way for a final decision.
The €90 billion loan is intended for Ukraine, which has been facing full-scale Russian military aggression for five years now. Its adoption was long blocked by the outgoing Hungarian government.
The submission of this final legal step for approval marks significant progress in the financial aid approval process.
