Iranian authorities have declared their refusal to negotiate with the United States under pressure and threats, according to Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
"Trump, by imposing a blockade and violating the ceasefire, is deludedly seeking to turn the negotiating table into a table of surrender or to justify the resumption of hostilities. We do not accept negotiations under the shadow of threats," Ghalibaf wrote on social media.
According to him, Tehran views Washington's actions, including a possible naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, as an attempt to force Iran to capitulate. He emphasized, however, that the Iranian side does not accept a negotiating format that is conducted under threat.
The parliament speaker also stated that over the past two weeks, during which the ceasefire has been in effect, Iran has prepared for new steps and “the revealing of new cards on the battlefield.”
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced plans to begin talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad on Tuesday. He said the American delegation would be led by Vice President J.D. Vance, who is expected to arrive in the Pakistani capital.
At the same time, Pakistani authorities, according to media reports, are preparing for a visit by delegations from both countries, despite Tehran's statements refusing to participate in the negotiations.
Hostilities between the US and Iran were suspended on April 7, and Israel also ceased its airstrikes. The ceasefire expires on April 22.
