High-profile arrests related to the activities of the State Committee for National Security continue in Kyrgyzstan, Tengrinews reports, citing Kaktus.media.
According to sources, the military prosecutor's office has detained former deputy chairman of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB), Timur Shabdanbekov. Six other agency employees have also been detained on suspicion of abuse of office.
It was also reported that on April 13, employees of the Military Prosecutor's Office detained the former deputy head of the State Agency for State Property Management, Bekzat Abdikakharov, the former deputy head of the State Committee for National Security for the Naryn region, as well as several department heads, including the head of the cyber fraud department and the head of the anti-corruption unit.
Media outlets also reported the arrest of Akylbek Mamatov, CEO of the Red Petroleum gas station chain. His family is reportedly connected to the family of former State Committee for National Security (GKNB) head Kamchybek Tashiev: Mamatov's father previously served as Tashiev's deputy in the Kyrgyz Football Union.
Earlier, on April 13, it was reported that Daniel Rysaliev, who served as deputy chairman of the State Committee for National Security and director of the Cybersecurity Coordination Center, had been arrested. He is suspected of corruption. The former head of the 6th Directorate of the Issyk-Kul Region and a current employee of the State Committee for National Security's central office have also been arrested in connection with the same case.
Against this backdrop, personnel changes in the country's security services took place earlier. On February 10, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov dismissed Kamchybek Tashiev. According to the press service, this decision was made to strengthen national unity and prevent a possible rift within society and government structures.
This was reported to have occurred amid calls for the president to hold early elections. According to the president's press secretary, members of Tashiev's entourage allegedly pressured deputies to initiate new elections.
Following Tashiev's resignation, structural changes followed: his deputies left their positions, the Border Service was removed from the structure of the State Committee for National Security, and a new State Security Service was created, reporting directly to the president.
On February 13, Kamchybek Tashiev returned to Kyrgyzstan, stating that he was forced to interrupt his treatment abroad.
