The US Federal Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation into Joe Kent, former director of the National Counterterrorism Center, CBS News reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.
According to sources, the investigation is focused on the alleged leak of classified information. It is noted that the review began even before Joe Kent's resignation, announced this week amid disagreements with the Trump administration over the military campaign against Iran. The FBI's criminal division is leading the investigation and it has been ongoing for some time.
On March 17, Joe Kent announced his decision to resign, declaring his disagreement with the US government's actions regarding Iran. In a letter to the president, published on the social media site X, he stated that he could not support the ongoing war and believed that Iran did not pose an imminent threat to the US. He claimed that the decision to launch the military operation was made under pressure from Israel and its influential lobby.
The former head of the National Counterterrorism Center emphasized that he supported the values that Donald Trump promoted during the 2016, 2020, and 2024 election campaigns, but, in his opinion, until June 2025, the president realized that the war in the Middle East was a trap for the United States.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has not provided any official comment on this situation.
