The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Board of Appeals awarded a forfeit to Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations final against Morocco, according to a CAF statement.
As a result, the Moroccan team was declared the winner of the tournament.
The appeal filed by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation was reportedly found admissible and upheld. The CAF press service stated that the Senegalese team's conduct falls under Articles 82 and 84 of the African Cup of Nations regulations.
The final match of the tournament took place on January 18. The Senegalese team defeated the Moroccan team with a score of 1:0.
The match ended 0-0 in regulation time. In stoppage time, Morocco was awarded a penalty. Senegal left the field in protest, but later returned.
The penalty kick was taken in the 24th minute of stoppage time. Morocco's Briham Diaz attempted a Panenka-style kick, but was unable to beat Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
At the start of extra time, in the 94th minute, Senegal took the lead. Pape Gueye scored. The score remained 1-0 until the end of extra time.
