US President Donald Trump is discussing the possibility of offering financial incentives to Greenlanders if they vote to join the United States. According to Tengrinews.kz, citing the Daily Mail, the proposal would involve a $1 million payment to each resident.
According to media reports, the idea is currently under discussion and applies to the island's entire population, which numbers approximately 57,000. Trump is reportedly considering such a move as a possible means of gaining support among Greenlanders.
"He is considering offering Greenlanders $1 million each if they vote to join the United States," the publication says.
Trump previously announced that he would not impose 10% tariffs on eight European countries—Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland—that opposed Greenland's annexation to the United States. He said the decision was made after a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on Greenland.
The US President continues to insist on Greenland's annexation to the United States. He had previously considered several options for achieving this goal, including purchasing the island and using military force. However, speaking at the Davos Forum on January 21, Trump stated that he does not intend to use military force to gain control of Greenland.
