The Tajikstandard Agency urged citizens to be careful when purchasing and consuming canned goods, as spoiled products can cause food poisoning.
On January 19, the agency reported that dozens of families are hospitalized each year due to poisoning after eating canned vegetables, especially eggplant, cucumbers, and mushrooms.
"The main cause of such cases is failure to comply with sanitary requirements and regulatory and technical standards during product preparation. To prevent poisoning, it is essential to strictly adhere to the rules for preparing home-canned food, especially heat treatment, and storage. Canned food with bulging or rusty lids should not be consumed," the agency noted.
The agency recommended:
- purchase canned products only with clear labeling and production date;
- store canned food in a cool, dry place;
- Before use, inspect the jar: if it foams, makes a noise, or has an unpleasant odor, do not use it.
Tajikstandart's warning came in the wake of an incident on January 14, in which five members of a family in the Spitamen district were poisoned after eating canned food and were hospitalized.
