As part of the "Forestry Development Program for 2022–2026," over 200 hectares of forests are planned to be restored in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region during the current growing season. This was reported by the Forestry Agency under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Experts emphasize that every ornamental, shade, and fruit-bearing tree planted in various regions of the country must adapt to the natural conditions, climate, and geographic location of the area. Specifically, in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, planting begins later than in other regions of the country, scheduled for late March due to the relatively cool climate.
Turdali Arabov, Head of the Forestry Agency's Reforestation Department, noted that local environmental conditions must be taken into account to ensure the effective growth of trees and shrubs. Specifically, it is recommended to prune branches without fruit to prevent them from drying out. In the second year of growth, large branches are pruned, leaving new shoots 25–30 centimeters long, which promotes the development of new branches. The cut sites should be treated with lime to protect the shoots from pests.
Experts also recommend feeding seedlings with fertilizers to promote vigorous plant growth. During the winter, in December and January, it's recommended to water gardens with ice water, which helps preserve the plants and protect them from early spring frosts. Furthermore, when digging the soil under bushes, be careful not to damage the roots.
The implementation of these measures is aimed at preserving and increasing the forest resources of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, as well as maintaining ecological balance and strengthening the sustainability of the region's natural ecosystems.
