The joint bid by Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan to host the 2031 Asian Cup is highly likely to be rejected, Fergana.ru reported, citing a source familiar with the situation.
According to the source, "not all Central Asian bidding countries are ready to host such a high-level tournament due to the lack of infrastructure that meets AFC and FIFA requirements." How exactly the bid will be cancelled is still unclear. Either the countries themselves will withdraw their bids, or another bidder will win.
In addition to the Central Asian republics, Australia, India, Indonesia, Kuwait, and South Korea are currently bidding to host the 2031 Asian Cup. Incidentally, Australia hosted the tournament in 2015, and Indonesia was one of the four host countries in 2007. Football is underdeveloped in India, and the availability of the necessary infrastructure is questionable. As for South Korea, it also hosted the Asian Cup, but not for a long time. However, East Asian tournaments were held in 2004 and 2007 (in China and jointly in Vietnam/Malaysia/Indonesia/Thailand).
Thus, Kuwait is currently considered the most likely winner of the bid. Interestingly, the previous Asian Cup was held in the UAE and Qatar, and the next tournament will be held in Saudi Arabia in 2027.
