The world's longest high-speed highway tunnel has opened in northwest China. The structure runs through the Tianshan Mountains, reports chinadaily.com.cn.
The Tianshan Shengli Tunnel, located on the G0711 Urumqi-Yuli Highway in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, is over 22 kilometers long. Its maximum depth is 1.1 kilometers, and it crosses 16 fault zones.

It is noted that travel along the new structure will reduce travel time from several hours to 20 minutes.
The G0711 highway, over 324 kilometers long, was also opened on the same day. Its construction took five years, with a total investment of nearly 47 billion yuan, or more than US$6.63 billion.
Moscow authorities previously announced that by 2029, the city plans to build nearly 50 road structures, including new bridges, tunnels, and overpasses. Last year, 25 tunnels, bridges, overpasses, and flyovers were built in Moscow, improving accessibility in areas bordered by railways or waterways.
