On December 11, 2025, 52 people, including children, were injured by gas poisoning while filming a movie on a train in Almaty, Fergana.ru reported, citing ORDA.kz.
The incident occurred on a train arriving at Almaty-2 Station. Thirteen ambulance crews responded to the scene. The injured were taken to city hospitals.
"Ten children were hospitalized, two of them in the intensive care unit. The rest, after examination, were recommended for outpatient treatment at their place of residence," the Almaty Public Health Department reported.
Kazakhstan Railways noted that the train belonged to a private carrier and was provided to the film studio for filming. The company did not provide further details of the incident.
According to Tengrinews.kz, citing an eyewitness, the victims were filming a South Korean TV series. Those attending the casting were taken to a remote location near a railroad.
"At first, we waited in heated tents; we were promised the filming would take place in a warm car. But the Korean film crew took the warm car at the last minute, and we—women, children, everyone—were herded into a cold one. Filming lasted about three hours, and the extras were freezing. After filming, we were moved to another cold car. The extras' phones had been confiscated beforehand. When we started demanding heat, the organizers brought out a gas burner. After a while, people started fainting," an eyewitness recounted.
According to him, people were then evacuated to the train car where the film crew was located. There was no doctor at the scene; police and paramedics were met at the station.
The Transport Police Department's press service reported that a criminal case has been opened under Article 156 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, "Violation of Labor Safety Regulations." The necessary investigative actions are underway.
