From November 24 to 28, a World Bank (WB) mission led by WB Senior Disaster Risk Management Specialist Ahsan Tehsin visited Tajikistan to assess the progress and continue the implementation of the Tajikistan Preparedness and Resilience to Disasters Project, the press service of the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan reported.
On November 25, First Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan and Director of the Project Implementation Unit (PIU), Farrukh Nematzoda, met with a team of WB specialists, thanking them for their assistance and support in implementing the project and commending the PMU specialists for their work in preparing the necessary design solutions and reporting.
The State Unitary Enterprise presented a brief overview of the project's accomplishments and future work, including the construction of bridges in the Rudaki and Vose districts. Two bridges will be built on the Dushanbe-Rudaki highway over the Kofarnikhon River and the Elok River. Two other bridges will be built on the Dushanbe-Kulma highway.
In addition, the progress of construction work on high-risk sections of the Labidzhar-Karamyk transport corridor and the elimination of problems that have arisen in the Khatlon tunnel were reviewed.
It was noted that the contractor, China Road and Bridge Corporation (PRC), and the supervision consultant, Nabeel Abdul-Raheem Consultants (NARCO) (Kuwait), under the supervision of the client (the PIU), are successfully continuing preparatory and construction work. Temporary bypass roads have been constructed at all project bridges.
The contractor pioneered new technologies in temporary bridge construction. Using steel blocks, temporary bridges were constructed across the Yokhsu and Kofarnikhon rivers, allowing unimpeded vehicle traffic.
Work is currently underway to install a temporary bridge across the Surkhob River. Construction work will then begin on the gradual dismantling of the old, dilapidated bridges.
