Tajikistan has proposed creating a joint cyber rapid response team of specialists from CIS countries to strengthen the protection of national information systems and coordinate responses to the growing challenges of the digital age, according to VES 24.
At the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure conference in Tashkent, a representative of Tajikistan presented an initiative that, according to the delegation, could set a new direction for cooperation in the field of information security in the post-Soviet space.
According to Farhod Saidzoda, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan, the republic proposes creating an interstate CIS cyber squad—a specialized group uniting leading IT experts from the Commonwealth countries.
According to Farhod Saidzoda, the main tasks of such a unit will be 24/7 threat monitoring, real-time intelligence sharing, jointly practicing incident response scenarios, and enhancing the resilience of national information security systems. Particular attention will be paid to protecting government agencies, the energy sector, the financial sector, and transport infrastructure.
Experts note that Tajikistan's initiative is timely: over the past two years, the number of cyberattacks on CIS infrastructure has increased by more than 70%, according to the CIS Cybersecurity Monitoring Center. Moreover, most incidents are cross-border, making their investigation and prevention difficult without interstate cooperation.
The proposal was welcomed by a number of delegations. According to unofficial reports, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus expressed their willingness to study the details of the concept and consider the possibility of their specialists participating in the pilot project.
