From 2000 to the present day, the Republic of Tajikistan has implemented over 20 energy projects totaling over $2.5 billion. This was announced following the 67th meeting of the Electric Power Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), which took place on November 20, 2025, in Dushanbe as part of Tajikistan's chairmanship of the CIS, according to the country's Ministry of Energy and Water Resources.
As part of the completed projects, new production facilities have been commissioned, and energy infrastructure, including substations and transmission lines, is being constructed and modernized. Work is also underway to reconstruct major key substations and upgrade electrical networks at all voltage levels.
The meeting noted the important role of cooperation between Central Asian countries in improving the reliability of the regional energy system.
A project to connect Tajikistan's power system to the unified power grid of Central Asia is currently underway. As part of this project, the southwestern part of Tajikistan's power grid was successfully connected to the unified system in early June 2024. According to the plan, the northern part of the country's power grid is also expected to be connected in the first half of 2026.
