Kamchybek Tashiev, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of Kyrgyzstan, announced the completion of work to clarify disputed areas on the border with Tajikistan. All changes have been incorporated into state maps, eliminating the previous unrest, conflicts, and uncertainty, Fergana.ru reports, citing AKIpress.
According to Tashiev, fences have already been erected along the border in Kyrgyzstan's Batken and Leilek districts, stretching for 114 kilometers. The GKNB head corrected himself that the fences could extend as far as 120 kilometers, as work is ongoing around the clock.
Previously, barbed wire for demarcation structures was purchased from Uzbekistan and Russia, but now it is manufactured domestically—in penal colonies.
Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan also exchanged territories and settlements. "The exchange was roughly equal: they handed over 198 houses to us, we handed over 181; they handed over 84 empty plots of land to us, we handed over 133; they handed over 12 social facilities to us, eight; they handed over two outposts to us, one," Tashiev explained.
As an example, the head of the State Committee for National Security cited the village of Tash-Tumshuk, where Kyrgyz families previously lived, but over time, most sold their land to Tajiks. Authorities determined that the village was effectively surrounded by other people's homes, so the land was transferred to a neighboring state, and in exchange, they received equivalent plots of land in another district.
181 new homes have been built for displaced families in Kyrgyzstan. Each home has been allocated an additional 10-hectare plot of land to accommodate the children. In addition, the displaced families have been provided with funds for household restoration. A total of 300 million soms (approximately $3.4 million) have been allocated for these purposes, and 75 individuals have already received compensation of 1 million soms (approximately $11,500) each.
According to Tashiev, the process of resettlement and construction of new housing is ongoing, with all work planned to be completed by November 30, 2025.
