The 36th session of the Interstate Council on Hydrometeorology of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) took place on September 25 in Tashkent. Representatives from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) participated in the event, according to the CIS Executive Committee press service.

The CIS Executive Committee was represented at the session by Sergei Shparlo, Head of the Department for Cooperation in Emergencies of the Department for Cooperation in the Sphere of Security.
The meeting participants discussed the activities of national hydrometeorological services, their interaction within the CIS and WMO, and summarized the implementation of the Strategy for the Development of Hydrometeorological Activities in the Commonwealth Countries and its Implementation Plan. Opportunities for expanding international cooperation and implementing joint projects were also explored.
Particular attention was paid to the prospects for integrating national services into a global data and technology exchange system, which will improve the accuracy of forecasts and the effectiveness of warnings about natural hazards. Participants discussed the modernization of technical infrastructure, the implementation of innovative observation and data analysis methods, and the development of specialist skills.
Following the 36th session, important decisions and recommendations were adopted that will determine priorities and areas of activity for the coming years, contributing to improved public safety and sustainable economic development in the CIS countries.
