Ukrainian special forces and unmanned aerial vehicles carried out strikes on strategic oil facilities in Russia, which, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, significantly limited the country's energy capabilities and impacted its ability to conduct military operations.
"Today, I want to especially thank all our soldiers who are inflicting truly significant losses on Russia—at the front, in the border areas, and within Russia itself through long-range strikes. The most effective sanctions are those targeting Russian oil refineries, terminals, and depots," Zelenskyy said in his evening address.
The President emphasized that the Ukrainian strikes had significantly limited the Russian oil industry's operations. "Russia's war is essentially a function of oil, gas, and other energy resources," he noted.
Zelenskyy thanked the Security Service of Ukraine's special forces for the operation near Primorsk, where, according to him, Russia's largest oil terminal on the Baltic Sea was damaged. "Our special forces are also monitoring the port of Ust-Luga and other Russian entry points to the global market," he added.
According to him, Ukrainian drones are capable of operating at a range of over a thousand kilometers. The Special Operations Forces, the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Foreign Intelligence Service, and the Main Intelligence Directorate are also involved in the operations.
Ukrainian drones have previously repeatedly attacked oil refineries in Ufa, Ilsk, Novoshakhtinsk, as well as in the Saratov and Leningrad regions. Russian media reported that the Novo-Ufimsky Oil Refinery in Bashkortostan was attacked on September 13, and on the night of September 14, strikes hit the Kirishi Refinery (KINEF) in the Leningrad Region.
