Tajikistan's average annual natural population growth since independence was 2.4%, driven by an increase in the birth rate and a decrease in the death rate, according to the country's Ministry of Health and Social Protection.
According to the ministry, during this period, the average life expectancy increased from 70 to 76.3 years. "The government is taking measures to further improve healthcare. In this regard, the 'Strategy for Protecting the Health of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan through 2030' is being implemented," the ministry noted.
The Presidential Statistics Agency reported that the country's population increased by 2.1% in the first half of 2025. As of July 1, 2025, Tajikistan's population was 10,603,800.
According to preliminary data, the natural population growth in January–June 2025 increased by 2% compared to the same period in 2024 and amounted to 98.9 thousand people, or 18.8 per thousand population.
In the first six months of 2025, civil registry offices registered 116,200 newborns and 17,200 deaths, including 800 children under one year of age. The total birth rate and death rate were 22.1 and 3.3 per thousand people, respectively. The number of births increased by 2.1% compared to the first half of 2024.
