Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, arrived in Kyiv on Friday morning for an unannounced visit at the invitation of the Ukrainian government. The main purpose of the trip is to support Ukrainian veterans and learn about their rehabilitation projects.
According to the prince, the visit was initiated by Olga Rudneva, director of the Lviv-based rehabilitation center Superhumans . "About two months ago, I met Rudneva by chance in the US and asked how I could help. She invited me to come," Harry said.
The Superhumans Center, which opened in the Lviv region in the spring of 2023, provides prosthetics, reconstructive surgery, treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder, and rehabilitation to Ukrainian military personnel and civilians injured in combat. Its activities are funded by private donations and international assistance.
During his visit to the Ukrainian capital, Prince Harry is expected to visit the Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II, meet with veterans, and hold talks with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
This is the Duke of Sussex's first visit to Kyiv. "In Lviv, the war is almost invisible. It's so far west. This is the first time we'll see the real devastation caused by war," he was quoted as saying by the British newspaper The Guardian .
Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California, but he remains actively involved in charitable projects. Specifically, since 2014, he has initiated the Invictus Games —an international competition for military personnel and veterans with disabilities. The Invictus Games Foundation provides assistance to Ukraine by providing sports equipment for the rehabilitation of service members.
