Jennifer Lopez's concerts in Tashkent, Astana, and Almaty in early August stimulated the development of tourism, the hotel industry, and the restaurant business, and generated significant tax revenues for these cities, Fergana.ru reports.
On August 7, Lopez's concert at the Milliy Stadium in Tashkent attracted approximately 31,100 attendees, including service personnel, of whom 25,000 purchased tickets, Gazeta.uz reports, citing the Foundation for the Development of Culture and Arts of Uzbekistan. Foreigners accounted for 67% of the tickets, including guests from Russia (approximately 8,900), Kazakhstan (2,500), and other countries. Ticket prices ranged from 1 million to 4.2 million soums, generating potential revenue of 25 billion to 105 billion soums (approximately $1.97 million to $8.28 million).
According to the Foundation, the concert contributed to an increase in tax revenues in the Uzbek capital of over 42.5 billion soums (approximately $3.3 million) and a 25.7% increase in hotel occupancy. Over 15,300 international tourists visited Uzbekistan, including from the United States and Europe. Many foreigners purchased four- to six-day tour packages, planning their trip to Uzbekistan specifically for Lopez's concert. The large number of visitors during the off-season demonstrates the event's significant impact on tourism development, as emphasized by the makers of a report on the concert on the O'zbekiston 24 television channel.
Free shuttles were provided and security measures were enhanced for guests' convenience. 115 organizations participated in the show's preparation and execution, with 18 food courts and retail outlets operating. On the day of the concert, ridership on the Chilanzar metro line increased by 16,500.
It is emphasized that the event was held without the use of state budget funds and confirmed Uzbekistan's high potential for hosting world-class shows.
Lopez held two concerts in Kazakhstan: on August 1 in Astana and on August 10 in Almaty.
The performance in Kazakhstan's capital was attended by approximately 10,000 tourists from more than 30 countries, primarily from neighboring countries and countries in Europe and Asia, Tengrinews reports. Guests spent an average of $230 per night on accommodation, food, transportation, and shopping, with an average stay of three days. Organizers estimate the concert's multiplier effect at approximately 6.5 billion tenge (approximately $11.6 million). This figure does not include the cost of concert tickets, plane tickets, and train tickets. The average ticket price for Lopez's performance was $200, and the average airfare was $310.
Tax revenues are expected to reach 400 million tenge (approximately $714,000). Authorities emphasized that no budget funds were spent on organizing the concert; assistance was limited to ensuring public order, fire safety, and transport logistics.
On August 10, Lopez attracted over 20,000 spectators to the Central Stadium in Almaty, including guests from over 35 countries. The city's tourism department reported that the concert's multiplier effect amounted to approximately 5 billion tenge (approximately $9.2 million), including tourist expenses on tickets, accommodations, meals, and excursions.
