As of May 1, 2025, the number of employed people in the economy of Tajikistan amounted to 2 million 798 thousand people. This was reported by the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Employment of the Republic of Tajikistan.
According to the agency, 49.3 thousand unemployed people are officially registered, which is 1.8% of the total workforce. Compared to the same period last year, there is a steady decline in the unemployment rate.
Of the total number of employed, 1 million 280.8 thousand people, or 46.6%, are employees hired by enterprises of all types of ownership. This figure increased by 2% compared to May 2024.
During the first half of 2025, 79,870 citizens applied to labor and employment agencies, of which 62,399 were registered as job seekers, and 33,802 received official unemployed status. As a result of the implementation of the State Program for Assistance to Employment of the Population for 2023–2027, 41,205 citizens were employed, including: 4,640 people through the job quota system, 1,199 people with the support of loans for individual entrepreneurship, 3,478 people through involvement in paid public works.
Additionally, 9,179 citizens underwent vocational training and retraining in training centers, and 9,550 people received unemployment benefits.
In order to facilitate the employment of unemployed citizens, labor authorities held 509 job fairs, which were attended by over 10,700 people interested in employment.
In total, 106.6 thousand people used state employment services in the first half of 2025. The level of fulfillment of the state program indicators was 61.6%.
Taking into account the introduction of digital solutions, the second component of the project "Modernization of the Social Protection and Economic Integration System" is developing the Labor Market Information System (LMIS). To improve the quality of services, 73 divisions of the Labor and Employment Agency in various regions were equipped with: 281 computers, 260 tables, 178 printers, 184 chairs, 1696 cabinets for documentation and workstation equipment.
Also, within the framework of the Inclusive Economic Development Program, a qualitative study of in-demand skills and professions was conducted, as a result of which 20 of the most promising specialties in the labor market were identified.
