In Pavlodar, Republic of Kazakhstan, officers of the department for combating organized crime detained a citizen of one of the neighboring states while trying to sell a kidney. This was reported by Tengrinews.kz with reference to Polisia.kz.
The operatives conducted a special operation, during which the suspect was caught red-handed while receiving a deposit. A criminal case was opened on the fact of the incident under the article providing for liability for the illegal removal of human organs and tissues. The woman was arrested, a series of investigative actions are underway, said Bolat Nurseitov, First Deputy Chief of the Pavlodar Region Police Department.
He recalled that criminal liability is provided for participation in illegal transplantation and trafficking of human organs. The police urge citizens to report such cases by calling 102 or via the Police 102 mobile app.
This is not the first case of attempts to sell organs in Kazakhstan. Earlier, citizens were detained in Aktobe and Karaganda who tried to sell their internal organs for amounts from 9 to 15 million tenge. In some cases, the suspects received suspended sentences and probation control.
In addition, a woman who had been in hiding for five years and was suspected of organizing illegal organ trafficking in Kazakhstan was arrested in Poland. The criminal group illegally carried out transplant operations in medical institutions of the republic in 2017-2018, and citizens of several countries were involved in the scheme, including citizens of Israel, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
In 2024, 17 criminal cases of human trafficking, including organ trafficking, were registered in the Karaganda region.
Let us recall that in September 2024, the Law on Combating Human Trafficking came into force in Kazakhstan, which introduced new articles concerning liability for human trafficking and related criminal activities.
