General education institutions in Tajikistan will switch to a new 10-point system for assessing students' knowledge from September 1, 2025. This was announced by the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan at a press conference on the results of the first half of the year.
As the head of the department emphasized, the transition is being carried out within the framework of reforming the national education system and bringing it into line with international standards. According to him, preparations for the introduction of the new assessment system are ongoing, including the completion of work on updated school journals adapted to the 10-point scale.
“The transition to a multi-point assessment system is aimed at improving the quality of education and increasing objectivity in assessing students’ knowledge,” the minister noted.
According to experts, the new assessment system will eliminate barriers faced by graduates of Tajik schools when entering foreign educational institutions. In addition, it will provide greater flexibility and accuracy in assessing the academic achievements of schoolchildren, and will also increase motivation for learning.
It is noted that multi-point systems are widely used in countries with developed education systems, including Japan, South Korea, the United States, France and Iran. Depending on the country, 10-, 12- or 20-point scales are used.
The implementation of the new system in Tajikistan involves conducting training seminars for teachers, issuing methodological recommendations and preparing digital tools that meet modern requirements.
The transition to the new system will be another step towards modernizing the republic’s educational policy and will ensure more efficient functioning of the country’s educational institutions.
