The US State Department has approved the sale of two new arms packages to Ukraine for a total of $330 million, the Pentagon reported. One of the packages , worth $180 million, will be used to strengthen the Ukrainian Armed Forces' air defense systems. Among other things, it includes supplies of necessary equipment (spare parts, consumables, etc.) and training and maintenance services for American systems.
The second package , valued at $150 million, is aimed at upgrading the M109 self-propelled howitzers. It includes equipment for repair and overhaul, technical assistance, training, and logistical support. It is noted that Ukraine officially requested this assistance to maintain the combat readiness of the howitzers transferred to it.
The Pentagon emphasized that this deal is in the interests of the United States and is aimed at strengthening Ukraine's defense capability in the face of ongoing Russian aggression.
A day earlier, on July 23, Washington also approved two aid packages for Ukraine worth about $322 million. At that time, the list of deliveries included HAWK Phase III air defense systems, satellite equipment, as well as Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, repair and maintenance services.
