The Presidential Council for Human Rights plans to discuss the issue of mandatory vaccination of migrant workers who want to work in Russia. According to HRC member Olga Demicheva, the reason for this was the recent cases of importation of dangerous infections, including an outbreak of meningococcal infection, TASS reports.
"I think that the issue of security related to preventing such outbreaks should be reduced to both vaccination of the population of our country and mandatory vaccination of those who want to work in our country. So that these people are not sources of imported infections. All this needs to be thought about. And we will definitely make this issue one of the topics for discussion in the Human Rights Council," said Demicheva, whose words are quoted by the press service of the HRC.
She recalled that recently in Russia there was an outbreak of meningitis, which, according to preliminary data, was brought in by labor migrants. "Meningitis is a very dangerous disease. And it is necessary to understand when the disease could have been prevented, but it happened, this becomes a particularly important issue," Demicheva emphasized.
According to her, Russia has already established a production cycle for a domestic meningitis vaccine, which is expected to be widely available by 2027.
