Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov signed a law that provides for the introduction of fines for disseminating false information in the media and on the Internet. This was reported on the official website of the head of the Kyrgyz state, TASS reports.
"President Sadyr Japarov signed the law "On Amendments to the Code of the Kyrgyz Republic on Offenses," the statement said.
Amendments to the legislation, approved by the national parliament in June of this year, provide for the introduction of fines for false information on the Internet or in the media. For such violations, individuals will be fined 20,000 Kyrgyz soms (about $228) by court order, and legal entities – 65,000 soms (almost $742).
"The purpose of the law is to ensure information security and the rights of citizens to receive objective, reliable information," the statement says.
The new law will come into force ten days after its official publication.
