The European Union and Central Asian countries held their first Counter-Terrorism Dialogue in Dushanbe, the EU Delegation to Tajikistan reported.
"The EU side met with representatives of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to discuss a wide range of issues related to the fight against terrorism, including the assessment of the terrorist threat," the statement said.
The meeting also discussed areas of specific cooperation, including counter-radicalisation, prosecution, rehabilitation and reintegration of returnees, and measures to combat aggressive online propaganda.
In addition, partners from the EU and Central Asian countries raised issues of cooperation with third countries, including at multilateral forums.
"The EU recalled the importance of anchoring anti-terrorism measures in the principles of the rule of law and respect for human rights. The EU welcomes meaningful and constructive discussions with the Central Asian countries. The next Dialogue will take place in Brussels," the EU Delegation to Tajikistan said in a statement.
