State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin believes that it would be right for the Ministry of Science and Higher Education to assess the actions of the leadership of Russian universities in connection with the second case of detention in structural divisions of those suspected of organizing illegal migration, Interfax reports.
"Considering that this is not the first case when structural divisions of universities are involved in illegal activities, it would be right for the Ministry of Science and Higher Education to assess the actions of the management of higher education institutions and take measures to prevent this from happening," Volodin wrote on Telegram.
He noted that last week it became known that nine people had been detained in Yekaterinburg on suspicion of organizing illegal migration, including the director of the center for taking exams for foreign citizens and stateless persons at the Ural Federal University, and now it has become known that 17 more people have been detained.
According to investigators, the director of the center for testing migrants at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lumumba (RUDN) became the organizer of a criminal organization whose members falsified the results of foreigners' exams in Russian language, Russian history, and the basics of Russian legislation. Volodin noted that now they face not only up to 15 years in prison for organizing illegal migration (Article 322.1 of the Criminal Code), but also criminal punishment for creating a criminal organization and participating in it (Article 210 of the Criminal Code).
