In Tajikistan, seven criminal cases of sexual violence were opened in the first half of 2026. This was announced at a press conference by Bunafsha Fayziddinzoda, Chair of the Committee on Women and Family Affairs under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
According to her, seven cases of sexual violence were confirmed during the reporting period. Following appeals from the Committee for Women and Family Affairs, criminal cases were opened for each of these cases.
Faiziddinzoda noted that the problem of sexual violence remains pressing in the country. She said many women and girls do not seek help or report crimes committed against them due to fear, shame, or because the violence occurred within the family.

The committee chairperson also reported that there have been cases of sexual violence against minors committed by close relatives.
In this regard, she called on parents to pay more attention to the safety of their children and to discuss possible risks with them more often in order to prevent such crimes in a timely manner.
In addition, Faiziddinzoda reported that legislative amendments are currently being prepared that will provide for tougher penalties for sexual crimes against children, including pedophilia.
