Natural disasters in the first half of 2026 caused 52,827,000 somoni in damage to the Tajik economy. Mudflows, avalanches, and strong winds were the main causes of the destruction, according to a press conference by the Tajik Emergency Situations Committee.
According to the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense, a total of 741 natural disasters were registered in the country during the reporting period. However, only 28 incidents had serious consequences, resulting in the destruction of infrastructure, residential buildings, and agricultural land.
In addition to material damage, the natural disasters claimed the lives of 12 people.
The Emergency Situations Committee noted that the republic continues to implement a range of measures to reduce the risk of natural disasters, including monitoring hazardous areas, strengthening river banks, informing the public, and improving the early warning system.
