On July 14, 2026, representatives of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan jointly installed the first four border posts as part of the next stage of state border demarcation. They are located on a section of the border that begins at the point of contact between the state borders of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, according to the Isfara city press service.
As noted, the installation of the first border pillars was a practical continuation of the implementation of agreements reached at the highest level and demonstrates constructive cooperation, mutual trust, and the strong political will of the parties to complete the process of demarcating the state border.
According to the press service, the total length of the state border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan is 1,008.14 kilometers, and the total length of the perimeter of areas with neutral status is 14.07 kilometers.
The statement emphasizes that the completion of the process of delimitation of the state border, which began in December 2002, was an important historical achievement, creating a reliable foundation for a new stage of friendly relations and cooperation between the two neighboring states.

The press service notes that this result was achieved thanks to the political wisdom of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov.
It is also recalled that on March 13, 2025, in Bishkek, the heads of state signed the Treaty between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic on the State Border. The document established an international legal basis for further strengthening mutual trust, ensuring long-term stability, and sustainable development in border regions.
Pursuant to the instructions of the heads of state, working demarcation groups of the government delegations of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan were formed as part of the Joint Demarcation Commission. These groups have begun the practical implementation of a set of demarcation measures, which continue in accordance with the instructions of the leaders of the two countries, in a spirit of mutual trust, partnership, and constructive cooperation.
The parties believe that the precise delineation of the state border is an important factor in strengthening regional security, sustainable socio-economic development of border areas, expanding mutually beneficial cooperation, and further strengthening friendly relations between the peoples of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The statement also recalls that on March 31, 2025, in Khujand, the heads of state of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan signed the Khujand Declaration of Eternal Friendship and unveiled a symbolic stele via video link at the point where the three countries' state borders meet.
According to the press service, this document has become a new symbol of mutual understanding, trust, and good-neighborliness in Central Asia, creating a solid foundation for strengthening peace and stability, regional integration, and developing cooperation.
The statement also emphasizes that ongoing demarcation work and the consistent implementation of the agreements reached are a logical continuation of the peace-loving and far-sighted policies of the heads of state.
It is noted that thanks to the strong political will, strategic state approach and consistent efforts of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the long-term negotiation process was successfully completed through direct political dialogue, which created a solid foundation for strengthening peace, friendship and long-term cooperation between the two neighboring states.
