In the first half of 2026, 27,563 marriages were registered in Tajikistan, representing a decrease of 2,793 compared to the same period last year. These figures were announced at a press conference by the Committee on Women and Family Affairs under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, summarizing its six-month results.
According to the Ministry of Justice's Civil Registry Office, 3,526 divorces were registered between January and June of this year. Compared to the same period in 2025, the number of divorces has decreased by 591.
At the same time, the number of minor children affected by parental divorce also decreased. Over the first six months, this figure was 3,111 children, 521 fewer than the previous year.
A decrease in the number of marriages registered based on court decisions lowering the marriage age was also noted. During the reporting period, this number amounted to 141 cases, compared to 230 during the same period last year.
Despite the positive trend, the Committee considers the problem of family breakdown to be one of the most pressing social challenges. Therefore, the country continues large-scale preventative efforts aimed at strengthening the institution of the family, increasing the responsibility of spouses, and preventing divorce.
According to the agency, during the first half of the year, the Committee and its regional branches conducted individual interviews with 502,931 families through door-to-door canvassing. Furthermore, 1,896 informational and educational events were organized "from mahalla to mahalla" on the preservation of family values, child rearing, divorce prevention, and other pressing issues.
The Committee emphasized that work to strengthen the institution of the family and enhance family values will continue in collaboration with government agencies, public organizations, and international partners.
