On July 11, heavy rains triggered mudflows in the villages of Darg and Kazdon in the Shamtuch jamoat of the Ayni district. The disaster caused significant damage to residential buildings, agricultural land, and a number of social and infrastructure facilities, according to the Ayni district executive authority.
According to preliminary data, mudflows descended along the Surkhi, Kashak, and Jari rivers in the village of Kazdon, after which they flooded both settlements.
The disaster damaged roads and pedestrian pathways, drinking and irrigation water supply lines, coastal protection structures, ditches, gardens, and agricultural crops.
In addition, 11 passenger cars, one KamAZ truck, the grounds of Secondary School No. 48 in the village of Kazdon, the district hospital in the village of Darg, grocery stores and other property of local residents were damaged.
According to district authorities, no human casualties were recorded as a result of the natural disaster.
An emergency response center has been established in the area to address the aftermath of the emergency. Relevant services have been tasked with addressing the aftermath of the disaster, assessing the extent of damage, and organizing emergency assistance to the affected population.
The district headquarters and task forces began operations immediately after the incident and continue to work around the clock in the disaster area. All available equipment and resources have been mobilized to restore roads, clear mudflows, ensure public safety, and repair damaged infrastructure.
Authorities reported that the situation is under the full control of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. All necessary measures are being taken to quickly address the consequences of the natural disaster.
Currently, employees of the district branch of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense, the Ayni District Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, and other relevant agencies continue to work at the scene of the incident, determining the extent of material damage.
Residents of the affected villages have also actively joined the cleanup efforts. They are helping clear houses, streets, and roads, and are also helping to evacuate damaged property, facilitating the speedy restoration of normal living conditions.
