Chinese President Xi Jinping called for all efforts to organize emergency rescue operations during floods, eliminate their consequences, provide medical care to the injured, and accommodate residents affected by the floods that have hit many regions of the country.
Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, said every effort must be made to minimize human losses and prevent secondary disasters.
Xi Jinping issued the instructions after heavy rains and gales triggered a series of natural disasters, including reservoir dam failures and landslides, in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Hubei and Gansu provinces, resulting in casualties and huge economic losses.
Xi Jinping emphasized that all regions and relevant departments must effectively implement flood control measures in light of the current severe and complex flood situation. He called for concrete efforts to inspect, identify, and address risks and potential hazards in rivers and lakes, reservoirs in critical condition, and areas prone to geological disasters.
Xi Jinping also stressed the need to strengthen monitoring, early warning and preparedness for rescue operations in emergency situations, calling for thorough efforts to carry out work in the field of disaster prevention and relief to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Qiang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, called for close monitoring of the downpours and floods in all regions, strengthening efforts to identify and early-warn risks, and making every effort to carry out emergency rescue operations.
