Positive progress was achieved in the indirect talks between the US and Iran, held in Doha under the mediation of Qatar and Pakistan, according to Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid al-Ansari.
According to him, on Wednesday, Qatari and Pakistani mediators held separate meetings with representatives of the United States and Iran. Following the consultations, the parties achieved positive progress on issues related to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
Al-Ansari noted that the negotiators agreed to continue discussions in the near future. The next meeting, he said, will be organized as soon as possible after the funeral ceremonies for former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who, according to published reports, was killed in US strikes in late February.
Farewell ceremonies for Khamenei will reportedly take place from July 4 to 9 in Iraq and Iran.
CNN previously reported that Iran and the United States were holding indirect talks in Doha through intermediaries from Qatar and Pakistan.
That same day, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi discussed the implementation of the Iranian-American memorandum of understanding with the Qatari Prime Minister. This was followed by a trilateral meeting between representatives of Iran, Qatar, and Pakistan.
Additionally, US Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff and US Presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner also held talks in Qatar on Tuesday and Wednesday. During a meeting with Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the two sides discussed the ceasefire in Lebanon, as well as the progress of negotiations between Washington and Tehran, as stipulated by the signed memorandum of understanding.
The day before, Witkoff and Kushner met in Doha with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, reaffirming the US intention to continue negotiations with Iran with the goal of reaching a comprehensive agreement.
