On the night of June 18, Moscow and several Russian regions were subjected to one of the largest drone attacks in recent memory. Oil infrastructure facilities, industrial plants, warehouses, and transportation facilities were targeted.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that air defense forces repelled a massive drone attack on the capital region. He said several drones managed to reach the Moscow Oil Refinery (MOR), located in the Kapotnya district.
"Air defense forces continue to repel the massive attack. Several drones managed to reach the Moscow Oil Refinery. Measures are being taken to mitigate the consequences," Sobyanin wrote.
According to Moscow authorities, 42 drones heading toward the capital were destroyed overnight. Later, it was reported that the total number of drones shot down approaching Moscow approached 180.
A building in the Sadovod shopping center was damaged by debris from one of the drones. No injuries were reported.
Due to the threat of further attacks, temporary restrictions were imposed on Moscow's Domodedovo, Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo, and Zhukovsky airports. The airports limited the number of incoming and outgoing flights.
According to open sources and monitoring resources, one of the strikes hit the Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya. Following the impact, a major fire broke out on the plant's premises. At least two storage tanks were reported to have caught fire.
This is the second attack on the Moscow Oil Refinery in recent days. Earlier, on June 16, one of the drones also struck a facility on the plant's premises, causing a fire. The fire was then contained and subsequently extinguished.
In addition to Moscow, other Russian regions were also attacked.
Drones attacked an oil depot in the city of Gukovo in the Rostov region. The strike caused a fire at the facility. According to preliminary reports, one person was killed and two others were injured to varying degrees.
A major fire broke out near the town of Shebekino in the Belgorod region. Local residents and regional public groups reported drone flights shortly before the fire broke out.
According to an analysis of published photo and video footage, the fire originated in an industrial area between the villages of Rzhevka and Voznesenka. The fire is believed to have engulfed a warehouse where flammable or combustible materials were stored. Some sources also refer to the facility as a military warehouse.
Crimea has come under attack from drones again. An attack has been reported on the railway bridge over the North Crimean Canal, located near the village of Razdolnoye in the Ichkinsky District.
According to available reports, approximately twenty explosions occurred in the area around the facility. In addition to the railway bridge, the nearby road bridge, known locally as the "humpbacked" bridge, may have also been damaged.
According to military observers, this transport hub is of great strategic importance, as it is used to transport equipment, fuel, and material resources southward.
