On May 3, 2026, intense rainfall in Tajikistan resulted in natural disasters in several regions. Residential buildings, infrastructure, agricultural land, and roads were damaged. Recovery efforts are ongoing.
In the Yavan district, a mudflow occurred around 5:00 PM in the village of Pakhtakor in the Sitorai Surkh jamoat. It flooded 14 garden plots, outbuildings, and three residential buildings. Three residential buildings were damaged in the village of Obi Muki, and six in the village of Dashtobod. Furthermore, in the villages of Pakhtakor, Zafarobod, Rudaki, and Firdavsi, main water canals were filled with mud, rocks, and gravel, causing water to spill onto the streets. Local government and emergency services are working on the scene.
In the Devashtich region, a mudflow also occurred around 12:20 PM in the villages of Dalen and Dahkat. Roads, streets, garden plots, and farm buildings were damaged, and four residential buildings were damaged. Cleanup efforts are ongoing.
In the city of Penjikent, a mudflow was recorded around 3:30 PM in the villages of Gusar and Navobod. Agricultural land, roads, and infrastructure were damaged, and the Ayni-Penjikent highway was partially damaged. There were no casualties.


A mudflow occurred in the center of the Shaidon jamoat in the Asht district at around 2:50 PM, flooding roads and basements. Responding teams are working on the scene.
Mudflows also occurred in several jamoats in the Spitamen district around 5:30 PM. Agricultural land, roads, and infrastructure were damaged. Cleanup efforts are ongoing.
Around 3:00 PM in the city of Khujand, a boat capsized on the Syr Darya River. Seven students from Secondary School No. 23 in the village of Dzhaykurgon, along with their class teacher, were on their way to the Navruzgoh cultural and entertainment park when the boat capsized. Everyone on board was rescued promptly.


A mudflow occurred in the Shodob-2 area of the Varzob District at approximately 4:05 PM. Residential buildings No. 341, 342, 342A, 344, 345, 346, 347, and 348 were damaged, and roads, walkways, and basements were affected. The aftermath was cleared with the help of engineering equipment and rescuers.
In the city of Tursunzade, at around 4:05 PM, a lightning strike caused an accident in the village of Kaduchi as a result of a thunderstorm. One person died, and two others were seriously injured. The victims were evacuated and taken to the Tursunzade Central Hospital at 7:10 PM.
Units from the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of Tajikistan are deployed to all incident sites. Emergency response and damage assessment are underway.
