A medal belonging to a veteran of the Tajik War was discovered in Russia and handed over to his relatives 80 years later. The medal, "For Military Merit," was found in 2025 by the "Sovest" search team in the Kaliningrad region.
According to detachment leader Ruslan Khisamov, the medal was discovered in a field near Znamensk. The 8th separate Königsberg heavy mortar brigade, awarded the Order of Kutuzov and Alexander Nevsky, of the General Staff of the 3rd Belorussian Front, was stationed nearby after the end of hostilities. The recipient of the award was Junior Sergeant Alim Ishanov, a native of the Leninabad District of the Tajik SSR, now the city of Khujand.
According to searchers, the award was likely lost after the fighting ended. The medal was awarded to Ishanov on May 21, 1945, for his participation in the assault on Königsberg. It is noted that the unit he served in was considered a key one, as it was equipped with heavy 160-millimeter mortars and was sent to the most difficult sections of the front. The brigade participated in battles near Goldap, Melsack, Ragnit, Labiau, Kreuzburg, and Pillkallen.
According to his award documents, Ishanov held the position of top computer operator in the second division. During the preparations for a breakthrough of the enemy's defenses near Königsberg, he repeatedly dispatched to locate targets identified by scouts.
The award sheet notes that his work contributed to the precise identification and destruction of enemy firing positions. The topographic mapping of targets was carried out under intense fire, but despite the threat to life, Ishanov and his fellow soldiers carried out their tasks with high precision, ensuring the infantry's advance.
The subsequent fate of the front-line soldier remains unknown, but it has been established that in 1985 he was alive and was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, second degree.
It was previously reported that the medal was handed over to relatives on April 10 through the Consul General of Tajikistan in St. Petersburg, Sherali Khurshed. According to the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the award was handed over during his working visit to the Kaliningrad region and a meeting with the region's governor, Alexei Besprozvannykh.
