Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov signed a decree stripping Almazbek Atambayev of all state awards, Fergana.ru reports.
The former president of the country has been stripped of the highest degree of the Kyrgyz Republic’s honorary title “Kyrgyz Respublikasynyn Baatyry” (Hero of the Kyrgyz Republic), the Order of Manas, 2nd degree, the Order of Danaker, and the Dank medal.
The Bailiff Service of the Prosecutor General's Office has been instructed to confiscate Atambayev's state awards and accompanying documents and transfer them to the state awards fund.
The decree was signed pursuant to the verdict handed down by the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek on June 3, 2025. At that time, in the Koi-Tash case, Atambayev was sentenced in absentia to 11.5 years in prison, with confiscation of property and the loss of state awards. Japarov called the verdict harsh and expressed his willingness to pardon the convicted man if his representatives appealed to the authorities.
Almazbek Atambayev was President of Kyrgyzstan from 2011 to 2017. In August 2019, Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security attempted to detain the politician at his residence in Koi-Tash, a suburb of Bishkek, but Atambayev's supporters resisted. As a result, one security service officer was killed and over 100 people were injured.
The trial for the Koi-Tash events began in 2022. Corruption-related charges were later added to the proceedings. In February 2023, the main defendant in the case, Atambayev, was released from custody to undergo medical treatment abroad. The former president flew to Spain and never returned home. In September 2025, bailiffs forcibly evicted the former president's family from their home in Koi-Tash.
