The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) conducted a training exercise to localize a simulated crisis situation in one of the Central Asian states, the CSTO Joint Headquarters reported.
"On December 24, under the leadership of the CSTO Joint Staff, a joint exercise was conducted involving duty shifts from the CSTO Crisis Response Center, defense department command posts, and the ministries of civil defense and emergency situations of the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, and the Republic of Tajikistan. According to the exercise's design, a set of measures was practiced to contain a crisis situation in one of the Central Asian states using the CSTO Collective Rapid Response Forces," the statement reads.
According to the organization, the exercise focused on rehearsing a joint action plan to neutralize extremist groups whose members were actively involved in preparing sabotage operations against critical infrastructure facilities. Additionally, duty shifts practiced responding to an incursion by armed forces at a section of the state border.
"According to the exercise's design, the emergency situation arose as a result of a terrorist attack and was accompanied by a large-scale spill of a hazardous chemical substance, which required the prompt deployment of rescue units, containment of the area, and evacuation of the population," the headquarters added.
