On December 5, the 108th meeting of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held in Moscow under the chairmanship of First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Khokim Kholikzoda. This was reported by the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

During the meeting, held in both narrow and expanded formats, the heads of delegations exchanged views on current issues on the agenda of economic cooperation in the CIS region.
At the same time, the parties considered 17 issues aimed at further strengthening cooperation in various areas of the economy and social sphere, on which the relevant decisions of the Economic Council were signed.
Among other things, a draft Concept for the Integration of Major Transport Arteries Passing through the Territories of the CIS Member States was reviewed. The main goal of the draft Concept is to create an integrated transport system within the CIS. This will ensure the safe, fast, and efficient movement of goods between countries, reduce transportation costs, and enhance competitiveness.
Council members were briefed on the activities of the Commonwealth Rail Transport Council in 2020–the first half of 2025. The Council's efforts are aimed at preparing coordinated proposals on priority areas for rail transport development, maintaining the technological integrity of the rail network, ensuring the coordinated development of railway infrastructure in the 1520 area, organizing the joint use of freight cars and containers, developing a common information space, and implementing a coordinated tariff policy in international traffic.
The meeting also approved the draft Strategy for Convention and Exhibition Activities of the Commonwealth of Independent States through 2030. The document outlines long-term objectives for the comprehensive development of competitive convention and exhibition industries in the Commonwealth through 2030 and ways to achieve them.
The members of the Economic Council approved an event plan dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States. It includes five sections, bringing together more than 30 important and significant events aimed at both developing cooperation between CIS member states and strengthening and promoting the Commonwealth as a whole.
A number of financial issues were also considered at the meeting.
The next, 109th meeting of the CIS Economic Council was decided to be held on April 3 in Moscow at the World Trade Center, traditionally combining it with the spring CIS International Economic Forum "35 Years of the CIS: Developing the Greater Eurasian Partnership."
The heads of delegations also emphasized the success of Tajikistan's chairmanship of the Economic Council in 2025 and particularly noted its effectiveness. The chairmanship of the CIS Economic Council in 2026 will pass from Tajikistan to Turkmenistan.
