A Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony was held on the sidelines of the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-30) in Belém, Brazil, between the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Japanese company ArkEdge Space Inc. The Agency's press service reported this.
The document opens opportunities for cooperation in capacity building, glacier remote sensing, climate change monitoring, greenhouse gas emissions, and air quality. The parties noted that joint activities are essential for enhancing climate resilience and strengthening the scientific potential of the Republic of Tajikistan.
As part of the COP-30 business program, Kurbonzoda Abdullo, Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, met with Kentaro Doi, Vice Minister for Global Environmental Affairs of Japan. During the conversation, the parties expressed their intention to promote joint scientific publications, participate in international conferences, and explore opportunities for attracting funding from international partners for joint projects.
The signing of the Memorandum, as emphasized in a statement by the Agency's press service, once again confirms Tajikistan's commitment to strengthening climate science, expanding international cooperation, and implementing innovative approaches to climate monitoring. For a country with some of the largest glacier resources in Central Asia, developing remote sensing and monitoring systems for greenhouse gases and air quality is key to adapting to the impacts of climate change and making informed management decisions.
