A signing ceremony for grant contracts for two new projects was held in Dushanbe between Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Tajikistan Keiko Furuta and representatives of the beneficiary organizations. The total grant amount provided by the Government of Japan is $228,699, according to the press service of the Japanese Embassy.
The new projects are funded under the Japanese Government's Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security (GGP) Program.
Among the projects:
"The project for the construction of a new school in the village of Vahdat, Tajikabad District" — worth $128,739. The contract was signed by Tajikabad District Chairman Kadriddin Fakerzoda.
"Istiklol Central Hospital Medical Equipment Improvement Project" — $99,960. The contract was signed by Valinazar Goibov, Director of the Istiklol Central Hospital.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Keiko Furuta emphasized that Japan has provided assistance to the Tajik people in a wide range of areas for over 30 years, since the establishment of diplomatic relations with Tajikistan. She noted that education and healthcare are key areas of bilateral cooperation between Japan and Tajikistan.
In closing, the ambassador expressed hope that these projects will be implemented on time and will benefit the general population, especially those affected by the devastating earthquake that occurred in April of this year. She noted that these initiatives are aimed at improving the quality and safety of healthcare and educational institutions in the country, which, in turn, will contribute to improving the overall well-being of the population.
Representatives of the beneficiary organizations expressed their sincere gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their support.
According to the embassy, assistance under the GGP Program is provided primarily to local governments, educational and medical institutions, and international non-governmental organizations operating in developing countries.
Since 1996, the Government of Japan has implemented 470 humanitarian projects in Tajikistan through the GGP, totaling US$39.2 million, aimed at developing social infrastructure and improving the quality of life of the country's population.
