On the evening of August 10, Russian armed forces carried out an airstrike in Zaporizhzhia, resulting in a guided aerial bomb (GAB) hitting the Central Bus Station. According to preliminary reports, at least 20 people were injured, according to Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration.
According to him, the second strike hit the building of the Zaporizhzhia Medical University Clinic. There were no casualties or injuries at the medical facility. The attack damaged seven apartment buildings and several non-residential buildings.
According to local rescue services, the bus station building sustained significant damage, and people were being pulled from the rubble. By 10:00 PM, rescue operations at the scene had concluded, and casualty figures are being clarified.
In his evening address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the attack was further evidence of Russia's reluctance to take real steps toward peace. He emphasized that "no deadlines or expectations have any effect on the Russian regime," calling for continued sanctions pressure on Moscow, primarily from the United States.
That same day, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called for increased pressure on Russia and announced that he had been urging US President Donald Trump to impose new sanctions for several weeks. According to Merz, a final decision could be made after the meeting between Trump and Putin, scheduled for August 15 in Alaska.
