A Tajik delegation led by Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Akhliddin Nuriddinzoda participated in the Ninth Subregional Forum on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which was held on September 4–5 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, Khovar news agency reported.
The Forum brought together representatives of government agencies, international organizations, academia, the private sector, and civil society to discuss progress achieved and existing challenges in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
During the meetings, the Tajik side presented its national experience in integrating the SDGs into the country's strategic documents, including the National Development Strategy to 2030 and the Medium-Term Development Program for 2021–2025. It was noted that Tajikistan has prepared two Voluntary National Reviews and the first Voluntary Local Review for the city of Dushanbe, which has become an example of localizing the SDGs at the capital level.
According to the 2023 SDG Index, the country has made significant progress in addressing climate change, sustainable consumption and production, access to clean energy, and poverty reduction. Specifically, 73% of the country's population has access to safe drinking water, and 64% to improved sanitation.
The North and Central Asia SDG Forum is a key regional platform for exchanging experiences and coordinating efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Its outcomes will be taken into account in preparation for the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, which will be held in 2026 in New York.
