Tajikistan's largest hydroelectric power plants, the Nurek and Baipazin hydroelectric power plants, have completed preparations for operation in the 2025–2026 fall-winter period. This was reported to the Khovar news agency by Anvar Kiromaddinov, deputy chief engineer of the Nurek hydroelectric power plant.
According to him, scheduled technical and major equipment repairs have been carried out to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the population, and access roads, vehicles, and equipment have been prepared for winter operation. "All measures to maintain the diesel generators' readiness have been fully implemented, and floodwaters have been pumped out of dams No. 1 and 2 on the Safedob River," Kiromaddinov explained.
At the Nurek Hydroelectric Power Plant, modernization of the seventh hydroelectric unit and routine repairs to individual components are ongoing. At the Baipazinskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant, damaged boiler components for hydroelectric units No. 1, 2, and 3 have been restored and repaired.
Pamir Energy previously noted that thanks to the commissioning of the Sebzor hydroelectric power station and the completion of major repairs to the reservoir and discharge channel of the Pamir-1 hydroelectric power station, no electricity shortages are expected in the GBAO during the cold season this year.
As energy experts note, in previous years, electricity shortages during the winter months were most often associated with low water levels in reservoirs.
