The first shipment of humanitarian aid from Tajikistan for families affected by the earthquake in Afghanistan's Nangarhar and Kunar provinces has arrived in Jalalabad. The humanitarian operation plans to deliver 3,000 tons of aid, of which the first nine trucks have already arrived, according to local officials and Ariana News .
The humanitarian aid shipment included food, essential items, and building materials, including cement, rebar, wooden boards, tents, and carts, as well as cereals, sugar, vegetable oil, pasta, flour, and other essential goods.
The aid handover ceremony took place in Jalalabad with the participation of Tajikistan's Ambassador to Afghanistan, Said Sharifi, and Nangarhar's Deputy Governor, Azizullah Mustafa. During the event, the parties emphasized the importance of friendship and close ties between the two countries.
"Afghanistan and Tajikistan are two Muslim countries with shared values and centuries-old cultural and historical ties. No border can sever this connection," noted Azizullah Mustafa, expressing gratitude to the government and people of Tajikistan for their timely assistance.
According to Afghan authorities, earthquakes in the country's eastern provinces have killed more than 2,200 people, injured over 3,600, and completely or partially destroyed at least 6,700 homes. Many of the victims are located in remote mountainous areas with limited infrastructure and now face serious risks as winter approaches and temperatures drop.
Tajikistan's humanitarian aid is aimed at meeting the immediate needs of victims and accelerating the restoration of infrastructure in the affected regions.
