Tajikistan's Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin, met with Mr. Gazi Shbaikat, Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the country. During the meeting, the minister congratulated Mr. Shbaikat on his appointment and wished him success in his new position, according to the press service of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.
The parties discussed the current state and development prospects of the Tajik economy. The Minister emphasized that, thanks to the consistent implementation of President Emomali Rahmon's strategic directives, government programs, and development strategies, the national economy is demonstrating sustainable growth.
"Despite the challenging global economic situation, the country's economic development was ensured from January to August 2025, thanks to timely government decisions and the implementation of priority programs," the ministry noted.
Specifically, over the past five years, the country's average GDP growth has been over 8%, and nominal GDP is estimated to reach 173.4 billion somoni in 2025, almost double the 2020 figure. The government forecasts economic growth in 2026–2028 at 8.5%, 8.3%, and 8.6%, respectively.
Taking into account current economic trends, the IMF has revised its forecast for Tajikistan's GDP growth in 2025 to 7%.
During the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness to further expand cooperation, including developing sectors of the national economy, improving the planning system, legalizing the shadow economy, and implementing structural reforms to achieve the country's strategic goals.
